A new inner city high school has opened in Saskatoon to fill the education gap. Principal Keith Jorgenson says the new Community Youth Development Corporation is geared toward people who have been out of school for awhile, and are interested in attending and learning again. The YDC has been running for three years, but with limited students because of a lack of funding. This is their first year with funding from the Ministry of Education. The school offers practical programs like cosmetology, construction and carpentry, automotive, agricultural tech, and commercial cooking along with the full provincial curriculum. Jorgenson expects between 30 and 50 students this year, and the first classes begin tomorrow (Fri). (ct sept6/12)
