When your nickname is “The Undertaker”, you are a Roughrider Legend…and your name is Bill Baker!

Baker played a total of 174 games in 11 seasons with the Riders and B-C Lions. He had two stints in Green and White...from 1968 to 73 and again in 77 and 78, playing three seasons in between with the Leos. He was a Division All-Star five times, and won the C-F-L's Most Outstanding Defensive Player Award in 1976 as a member of the Lions.

According to the Canadian Football Hall of Fame, “a Bill Baker forearm to the head was greatly respected by opposing quarterbacks who came within range.” Hence his nickname, “The Undertaker”. Baker’s mantra was, “your opponents are only as tough as you let them be.”

Bill Baker was a force off the field once his playing days were done, serving as Saskatchewan’s general manager in 1987 and 88 and serving as C-F-L president in 1988 and 89. Despite never having played on a Grey Cup winner, Baker was inducted to the Canadian Football Hall of Fame in 1994 and into the Rider Plaza of Honour in 1990.

No doubt, “The Undertaker”, Bill Baker, is a Roughrider Legend.
