You could call today (Tues) the official start of the Saskatchewan New Democrat leadership campaign.

As of today, candidates can register.

The election will happen in the middle of the annual party convention, which is March 8th to 10th at TCU Place.

The leadership convention is March 9th.

Deb Higgins, Chair of the Leadership Contest Committee, says when Dwain Lingenfelter stepped down, John Nilson stepped in as the interim leader, but at this point she doesn't know who is running, until candidates officially announce their intentions.

Higgins expect this process will be a time for growth and outreach for the party, because there will be a lot of activity as the candidates campaign.

Similar to the last two conventions, the NDP will use a one-member, one-vote process, and voting will be available online, by phone, by mail-in ballot, or in person at the convention.
