The RCMP and Regina Police continue to investigate an incident where Saskatoon RCMP officers fired their weapons during a highway traffic stop on April 26th near Clavet. 35 year old Derek Marlon Cote was shot. Police made the initial stop because the vehicle matched the description of a vehicle wanted in connection with a series of break and enters in Watrous. There were three other people in the vehicle at the time of the incident and they were taken into custody. Regina police are involved in the investigation into the circumstances that led to the shooting. They will file a report to the Ministry of Justice and the Attorney General.
As for the Break and Enters, over the course of the investigation, police recovered 9 stolen firearms, and numerous other items. there may be more B&E's connected to the investigation. Police have charged Cote, 33 year old Erin Tootoosis, and 57 year old Karen Hillmer, all from Imperial. Cote is facing charges including assaulting a peace officer with a weapon, pointing a firearm, and possession of a firearm. Tootoosis and Hillmer are charged with possession of property obtained by the commission of an offence . Another male subject who was arrested on the Highway was released from custody and no charges were laid. [gw may 2 2013]
