RCMP and the Government of Saskatchewan are reminding motorists to slow down in the Orange Zone after a fatal collision late Friday afternoon (Aug 24) on Highway 39, north of Midale. Sgt. Paul Dawson says 18 year old Ashley Dawn Richards, originally from New Brunswick, was working as a flag person and was hit by a northbound SUV. The 44 year old man driving the vehicle was arrested and taken into custody. He was released on Saturday, and although no formal charges have been laid, they are pending. An RCMP traffic re-constructionist is assisting with the investigation, as well as representatives from Provincial Occupational Health and Safety and the Coroner. Highways Minister Don McMorris says this kind of accident should never happen. All it takes is for drivers to obey the law and slow down, especially in construction zones. The Orange Zone speed limit on highways is 60 kilometres per hour. (ct aug27/12) Share: ![]() Tweet
