Just in time for a forecast high near 30, the new Mayfair Swimming Pool will open Friday at one o'clock.

Mayfair Pool, which opened in 1959, was the oldest operating pool in the City until it was closed in 2008.

After much community consultation the City replaced the pool at a cost of 5 and a half million dollars.

The new facility will include an outdoor leisure pool with water features, a lane pool and diving area, a waterslide and run-out chute, as well as designated areas for sports activity, barbeque and picnic space.

Mayfair Pool will be hosting a celebration next Wednesday from 11:30 to 7 to commemorate the grand reopening, as well as to celebrate Her Majesty's Diamond Jubilee.

The event will include free swimming, a free barbeque, cake, entertainment, activities, and a ribbon cutting ceremony.
