A half-dozen candidates are vying for the role of president of the Metis Nation of Saskatchewan. Registered Metis across the province are reporting to polls to vote in the first election since 2007. The previous attempt -- from May of this year -- saw the election cancelled after its legitimacy was challenged in court. This time around, Myers Norris Penny has been contracted to run the election, with Ian Craven serving as the Chief Electoral Officer. Along with 6 candidates for the top job, 3 are in the running for vice-president, 4 for secretary and 3 for treasurer. As for the 12 regions, 5 incumbents have been acclaimed including Lennard Morin, Helene Johnson, Billy Kennedy, Chester Herman and Lela Arnold. There are 2 Regions with no candidates at all and two or three way races in the others. Polls across the province close at 7 o'clock tonight; results should be available by morning.
