The town of Duck Lake appears to be stuck with what the mayor says may be the highest water bills in the country.
The town of just over 600 was told by Saskenvironment to upgrade their water treatment system in 2006. So they struck a deal with Saskwater. But after rising prices and a connection fee sent the bill sky high, the town decided Saskwater wasn't a good idea.
Now each resident will be stuck with a water bill over 160 dollars a month for 20 years. The minister of crown corporations and the premier turned down a request to attend town meetings, saying Saskwater was no longer involved.
The town also can't get a loan because their annual budget is too low. Mayor Denis Poirier says they haven't given up yet, he hopes someone from government will step in and help out.
