La Ronge has been selected as the location for a trial involving a fuel spill into Wollaston Lake in June 2006.
The Hatchet Lake-Dene First Nation is one of the defendants in the case. Six environmental charges have been laid under the Migratory BIrds, Fisheries and Environmental Management and Protection Acts.
Chief Rosalie Tsannie-Burseth is disappointed the trial is not being held in Wollaston Lake. She says band members want to see the proceedings in person.
A provincial court judge has ordered the Crown to install closed circuit TV in Wollaston Lake so residents can view the trial. The Crown will also have to pickup the expenses of the witnesses and defendants.
