The project leaders in the consolidation of Saskatoon's three intensive care units into two, say they believe the system is more efficient now.
Patty Simonar, the Director of Critical Care and Emergency Service for the Saskatoon Health Region, and Dr. Susan Shaw, Department head for Adult Acute Care, reported to the Saskatoon Regional Health Authority today (Wed) on the progress since the consolidation.
Dr. Shaw says they have been able to increase capacity, and the ability to surge in the face of a pandemic.
City Hospital's intensive care unit closed in October 2008, and merged into the units at Royal University Hospital and St. Paul's.
