8 new forest fires started over the past 24 hours and we have a total of 57 fires burning in the province.

Brent Krayetski with the Fire Control Centre near Prince Albert says the situation can change quickly when lightening rolls through.

The total fires to date has jumped from one hundred and 98 on July 11th to 3 hundred and 14 today.

Krayetski says most of the fires are burning in the far north and no communities are in danger.

The fire near the Rabbit Lake Mine is still burning, Krayetski says, and although it's not considered under control, it's not so much of a threat now because the wind has been keeping the fire away from the mine site.

That fire, he says was caused by lightening.
