It's my Parting Shot for my Tuesday Tidbits.....
It's amazing how a successful sports team can turn on a city! And, of all places, it's Los Angeles going all gaga...and not "Lady Gaga" over their hockey team. The Kings are one win away from doing what Wayne Gretzky couldn't do in 1993...winning a Stanley Cup! Doing that in L-A was about the only thing that the Great One didn't accomplish in his illustrious career!
It says here the Montreal Canadiens have taken one step forward and two steps back in their recent hirings. I really liked the addition of young, former player and experienced apprentice Marc Bergevin as the Habs' G-M. But, his first hiring is a dud with Michel Therrien as the new-old head coach in Montreal! Been there, done that will be panned every day by the voracious media that follows the Canadiens. The only way to overcome that is win...but these aren't the Habs of the 50s, 60s or 70s anymore!
With yesterday's trading of Tomas Vokoun to Pittsburgh, the Washington Capitals have rewarded former Saskatoon Blades' goaltender Braden Holtby with a prime, Grade "A" chance to not just be full-time on an N-H-L roster, but to be one of 30 puck-stoppers known as an N-H-L Number 1 guy. The new contract he gets should reflect that!
I've said it before and I'll say it again...no matter what your thoughts are on Tiger Woods' private life, and his indescretions therein, the sport of golf is so-o-o-o-o-o-o much better with him playing his best, being in contention week after week and taking a run back at being the top player in the world!
That's my Parting Shot, I'm Les Lazaruk.
