There are 18 new units of affordable housing for families to rent in Saskatoon.
A ribbon cutting ceremony was held today (Thurs) to officially open the units.
The federal and provincial governments contributed to three projects with today's announcement.
Two are affordable housing projects that were officially opened on 19th Street and the third is funding for the acquisition and renovation of an 11-unit apartment building by the Central Urban Metis Federation Inc. (CUMFI)
Chief of the Saskatoon Tribal Council, Felix Thomas, says since Saskatoon's economic boom, rents have gone up making it difficult for some people to find an affordable place to call home.
He says one of the biggest things these new units do is give renters a sense of pride in their home, and an appreciation of a home that is bright and energy efficient with quality workmanship.
Federal and provincial funding for all three projects was provided through the Affordable Housing Initiative.
The City of Saskatoon contributed the land.
