Sask Can Pulse Trading has announced a major capital expansion of it's Wilkie
lentil processing plant which is already one of the largest lentil processing
factories in the world.
Murad Al-Katib, the President and CEO of Alliance Grain Traders and Sask Can
Pulse Trading, says one point 5 million dollars will be invested.
One of two processing plants will be expanded and the machinery in the plant
will be upgraded and upsized.
The expansion will mean 50 percent more lentils can be processed at the plant
and 3 optical colour sorting lines will be put in.
The optical equipment will separate lentils for colour for the packaging and
canning markets and it means better prices for growers.
Shipments from the Wilkie plant went to 35 countries around the world last
year.
Al-Katib says the work on the busy Wilkie plant is already underway and
should be complete by July.
Sask Can Pulse Trading has plants in Rosetown, Wilkie, Aberdeen, Assiniboia,
Milestone, Regina, one in Manitoba and one in Alberta.
The company just purchased the Wilkie and Assinbioia facilities and the plant
in Alberta 5 months ago.
