A fire at a TV station in Ottawa is bringing up an issue for television operations across the country.
The fire destroyed more than 37 years worth of local news archives.
Saskatoon's CTV news director says it would be a problem for many stations, because most would have archived footage going back decades.
Doug Lett says they have over 30 years worth in their building right now that is vulnerable.
Anything earlier than that from the 50's and 60's has been stored with the Saskatchewan Archives.
Lett says the Ottawa fire does bring the storage issue to the forefront, but adds that long-term plans have always been to find a different way to store their footage, because tapes deteriorate, so all the older stuff will have to be transferred to digital files at some point.
