Weekly feeder cattle sales in Saskatchewan surpassed 50,000 for the first time during the 2009 fall calf run.

Prices were generally $2 to $3 per hundredweight lower.  500-600 pound steer calves averaged $104.80 per hundredweight . . . compared to $107 during the previous week.   Fed cattle prices have been under pressure for the past two weeks and this trend may be reflected in lower bids for feeder cattle.

Fed steers sold in Saskatchewan for $76.05 to $76.85 per cwt liveweight and $127.75 per cwt railgrade.  Restrained consumer spending continue to affect beef demand and wholesale beef prices continue to lag well behind 2008 levels.
