Hawks a Problem for Mail Carriers PDF Print E-mail

People living in Saskatoon's Westview area won't be getting their mail delivered to their door thanks to a pair of aggressive hawks.

Canada Post has suspended mail delivery to 15 homes on Davidson Crescent because the nesting hawks have been diving at the letter carrier.

In the meantime, people living on the crescent have to pickup their mail at the West Letter Carrier Depot on Avenue H South.

Canada Post says mail delivery will resume once the birds have left the area.

Saskatoon isn't the first city to have an aggressive hawks problem. The same thing has happened in Swift Current and Moose Jaw.

hey Sam...Yes I have applied, and Yes I will and Yes I can. I would love a change from my job outside all the time on top of buildings, hanging from trusses, or over the sides of walls being constructed when its -40 and holding on to ice cold rebar while wearing my 40lb toolbelt hooked up to a harness so I don't fall to my death all the while making sure my hard hat doesn't fall off.

To written by me....
Have you applied for the job? Are you willing to walk when it's -40 to -50 windhchill or do you only want to work when the weather is good and the sidewalks are clean? What about rain and icy roads.
Do you mind getting bit by dogs? Can you carry 40 - 50 pounds of mail on your back or your shoulders.
If you can then get out and apply for the job. Quit sitting around whining about other people's benefits and pay when they are out there working.

I sure can't blame the letter carriers. Don't forget people, the people on this cresent can take cover in their homes. Not oly that, the letter carrier is exposed to the attack for 10 or 15 minuets as they go from house to house. So, as for myself, I don't blame them for halting mail delivery.

holy crap...give me the job, I'll do it. I want the pay and benefits that go with it...Come on, the people don't seem to have complained, no cats or dogs are missing, what seems to be the exact problem? I have had run ins with hawks before, they aren't going to "get you"

Grow up people....can you say WCB? If a worker gets attacked and needs medical attention, that's who looks after them. No one I know wants to be on WCB. Dog bites are bad enough, who knows what kind of damage hawks could do.
I'm pretty sure people in the neighborhood have a place to go to hide in case of an attack, where does the letter carrier go? No where! Out in the open.

They work hard avoiding situations that could cause them harm. Aren't we all entitled to that as employees? Shouldn't they be entitled to the same?

Wow!! I live in westview one block away from Davidson. I know that the hawks are a problem, they have been here all summer. I haven't heard of anyone being attacked, they even circle the park where I take my kids to play. I guess the mail carrier can't risk the 10 minutes in the cresent but the rest of us living here will be just fine.

What about the people that live there, are they getting attacked? Haven't heard anything regarding that, only about the scared Postal Workers...give us a break already, If the people living in the neighborhood and other people can walk around why can't the Postal Service?? or do hawks only attack those in uniform?? pitiful Union excuse.
