All games from now until Sunday's final will be played at Bob Van Impe Park as it is Page Playoff time at the 12th I-S-F World Men's Fastpitch Softball Championship.
Japan ended up third in Pool "A" and will meet Argentina, the fourth place team in Pool "B", in the first game of the day at 1 p.m. At 3:30, the "B" Pool third place team, Venezuela, takes on the "A" Pool fourth place finishers from Great Britain. The losers of the two matinees are eliminated. The winners move on to Saturday against the losers of the evening games in the "two lives" section of the draw. "A" Pool leaders, and three-time defending champion, New Zealand takes on the second place "B" Pool team from Australia at 6:30. That will be followed by the "A" Pool's second place team from the United States taking on "B" Pool leaders, Team Canada. The host country finished the preliminary round at 7-and-oh. First baseman Derek Mayson turned pitcher last night. And, after giving up a lead-off home run, Mayson shut down Puerto Rico over five innings as Canada won 8-1. Mayson's performance allowed head coach Mark Smith to give his regular four-man pitching staff what could be a valuable day off.
Fans are asked to wear red when coming out to the park tonight to show their support for the team.
