Lorne Molleken is staying in Saskatoon with the Blades! That may surprise you if you had not heard the rumours out of Calgary that Molleken was in line to re-unite with Darryl Sutter with the Flames. However, yesterday's announcement that Brent Sutter had been hired as head coach of the Flames ended the talk that if Darryl was to pull double duty as GM and Head Coach, he was going to hire Molleken, one of his former assistants with San Jose, as either an Associate Coach or Assistant Head Coach.

Molleken told Les Lazaruk that there was no truth to the rumour, however, six weeks ago, he turned down an offer from the Flames to be head coach of their American League affiliate in Abbotsford. He says he wants to stay in Saskatoon with the Blades...having been down that road before..

With that behind him, Molleken and  the Blades have decided not to stay in town and take in the 2010 World Junior Hockey Championships. In releasing their 2009-2010 tentative W-H-L schedule, the Blades will make their annual Western Conference swing, this year to the U-S Division, right after the Christmas break.

The Blades will, also, raise their first championship banner of any kind in 15 years on Friday, September 18th when they host Regina at Credit Union Centre in their season opener. In all Saskatoon will play 21 of their 36 home games this coming campaign on either Fridays or Saturdays.

Elsewhere, the Prince Albert Raiders will play 19 of their 36 home games on either Fridays or Saturdays. Their season opener will be Friday, September 18th at home to Brandon.
