A Saskatoon judge has acquitted David Ahenakew of willfully promoting hatred against Jews.

The 75 year old former leader of the Assembly of First Nations was convicted of inciting hatred back in 2005.

He was fined a thousand dollars but launched an appeal.

2 years ago the Court of Queen's Bench ordered a new trial.

Ahenakew made controversial remarks about Jews during a speech and in an interview with a reporter in 2002 referring to Jews as a disease that caused the second world war.

What Would He Think?

I agree! If comments similar to this were made about the First Nations people how would Mr. Ahenakew or the Chief of the Assembly of First Nations feel then? Would there be such a forgive and forget attitude or would it be another cry of opression? You can't have it both ways people!

Hey lesson...

You never heard of free speech ?.we should be able to say what we feel and if anyone doesn't like it they can
F..right off!!.It's nobody s business but his and who he was talking to.
That's the problem today..too many people sticking there noses where they don't belong a lot of the time, some should have em bent once in awhile.Maybe then they'd mind there own business then !! ;)

It has already happened

In regards to what he would think if others said awful comments about First Nations people--trust me it was said, done and happened and still happens today...it is just that certain general citizens are not high profile like Mr Ahenekew was. I don't support what he said and also hope he learned the lesson....such a shame all of this.

Lesson To All

I do not approve of what Mr Ahenakew said, but this should be a lesson to all ... we have to be very careful what we say, where we say it and to whom we say it. It is easy enough that our words are taken out of context, never mind when such hateful words are said so clearly.

Mr Ahenakew said hateful words. Who are we to judge, we are all probably guilty of saying something in private that wasn't kind ... bringing back the thought "Those without guilt, can throw the first stone." or as Bambi's mother said "If you can't say something nice, don't say nothing at all."
