Saskatchewan Agriculture's weekly crop report says 11 per cent of the provincial crop has been combined---with another 18 per cent swathed or ready to straight combine.

One week ago, four per cent had been combined and 7 percent swathed or ready to straight combine.

Here is a more detailed breakdown by crop:

 

Canola 32% swathed 5% combined

Lentils 20% swathed 36% combined

Peas 21% swathed 41% combined

 

Seven percent of durum, six per cent of barley and four per cent of spring wheat have been combined, mainly in southern Saskatchewan.

Here are some crop report notes from the various regions:


Southwest

-27 per cent of total crop combined

-18 per cent swathed or ready-to-straight combine

-49 percent of cropland is short of topsoil moisture and 17 per cent  is very short.

-yields range from above average to disappointing.

-reports of grasshoppers and flea beatles.

 

Southeast

-20 per cent of crop combined

-26 per cent swathed or ready-to-straight combine

-18 per cent of cropland has short topsoil moisture.

-crop yields vary depending on disease levels and moisture.

-aster yellows, sclerotinia, lodging and July high temperatures are affecting yields.

 

West-Central

-2 per cent combined

-15 per cent swathed or ready-to-straight combine

-many combined pea crops had disappointed yields due to disease and excess moisture.

-warm weather needed to advance later-seeded crops.

-2 per cent of forage crops will not be cut or baled due to excess moisture.

 

East-Central

-4 per cent combined

-20 per cent swathed or ready-to-straight combine

-many crops expected to yield less than expected due to excess moisture, disease and high temperatures during flowering

-cereal yields will be less than expected due to lodging, sawfly and aster yellows. there have also been reports of shrunken kernels and ergot.

-five per cent of forage crops will not be cut or baled due to excess moisture or drought.

 

Northeast

-1 per cent combined

-11 per cent swathed or ready-to-straight combine

-excess moisture a problem in parts of the northeast. the Tisdale area has received 604 millimetres (24 inches) of rain since April 1st.

-aster yellows, sclerotinia and insects will cause yield loss in many canola yields.

-11 per cent of forage crops will not be cut or baled due to excess moisture.

 

Northwest

-1 per cent combined

-11 per cent swathed or ready-to-straight combine

-spraying continues for bertha armyworms and lygus bugs in some areas.

-many crop yields will be less than anticipated due to disease, insects and heat stress.

-some producers have noticed wheat midge larvae in wheat heads but damage appears minimal at this time.

-1 per cent of forage crops will not be cut or baled due to drought.
