John Epping and his Toronto foursome of Scott Bailey, Scott Howard and David Mathers are the best men's curling team in Canada...that you've never heard of! Epping overcame a 4-0 deficit after two ends and stole the winning point in an extra end to defeat former world champion Kevin Koe of Calgary 6-5 in the final of the Point Optical Charity Classic at the Nutana Club Monday afternoon. Koe was just short on a last rock draw in the extra end to catch a piece of the button. Epping just missed winning on the eighth end when his stone rolled too far after removing Koe's shot stone with an angle double-raise take-out. The victory was the third straight on the World Curling Tour for the Epping team...starting with the Players Championship last April, the Shorty Jenkins Classic in Ontario last week and now the Point Optical event. In all, Epping's team won eight games and lost twice, qualifying out of the "C" event Sunday night, in order to claim the $12,000 top prize. The Koe quartet takes home $8,000.
