The summer of 2012 might be remembered for some big wind storms and tornados. But as of the end of September, S-G-I says it had triple the weather-related auto insurance claims in 2011 compared with this year. For property and general claims, spokesperson Rebecca Schulz says they had about half as many incidents this summer compared to last. During that time, she says S-G-I paid out just under 16 million dollars in auto claims and 20 million property claims that were weather-related. She says the majority of property claims were the result of that major wind storm that swept across most of the province in June, while the biggest hail storm, which mostly causes auto claims, was in the Melville area in late July.
