A single vehicle accident on Airport Drive near Robin Road closed the street for several hours while police investigated.

Just after 3 a.m Sunday morning, witnesses saw a vehicle travelling north on Airport Drive lose control and strike a light standard in the center median.

The force of the crash was so hard, the vehicle broke into two pieces.

The lone occupant, the 23 year old driver was taken to hospital, and as of Sunday morning, his condition was listed as serious but stable.

While still early in the investigation, police say speed was a contributing factor in the crash.

Airport Drive was re-opened just after 10 Sunday morning.
