The 1987-88 Saskatoon Blades have company in the franchise record book under the heading, "Longest Winning Streak." The current edition of the Bridge City Bunch scored four unanswered goals in the third period to defeat Moose Jaw 5-1 Wednesday for the Blades' 13th consecutive victory in front of 8,611 fans...including Prime Minister Stephen Harper. Matthew Stransky snapped a 1-1 tie just before the mid-point of the final frame and Josh Nicholls scored an insurance marker 33 seconds later. Captain Brenden Walker scored twice to complete the third period scoring while Erik Benoit tallied 34 seconds after Tanner Eberle notched the opening goal late in the first period for the 20-31-9 Warriors. Moose Jaw out-shot Saskatoon 36-35 with Andrey Makarov out-duelling Justin Paulic in goal. The 36-21-3 Blades remain four points ahead of Prince Albert for first place in the East Division after the Raiders won 5-2 Wednesday night in Medicine Hat. Saskatoon can break the longest winning streak record Friday when they host the Brandon Wheat Kings at 7:05 at Credit Union Centre.
