Special teams were the big difference Saturday as the Saskatoon Blades dumped the Kootenay Ice 5-2. The Bridge City Bunch scored three man advantage goals in the third period and killed off all four Kootenay power plays while scoring short-handed. The latter marker by Darren Dietz actually opened the game scoring and touched off the "Toque Toss" from a crowd of 5,576 at Credit Union Centre. The victory was the sixth in a row for the Blades, improving their record to 19-14-1 for 39 points, tied with idle Lethbridge for fifth place in the Eastern Conference and only six points back of Prince Albert for the East Division lead. Matthew Stransky scored twice, giving him goals in seven consecutive games. Nathan Burns had a goal and two assists while Dietz and Matt Pufahl also tallied for Saskatoon, as they outshot the ICE 41-27. The Blades play their final pre-Christmas contest on Tuesday in Swift Current.
