Behind the Stripes brought to you by the Saskatchewan Amateur Football Officials Association. Go to www.bearef.ca to find out how you can get on the field as an official. This week deals with a little know rule called the tandem buck, which Argo fans might think happened in last weekend’s game against the Riders on the Cory Sheets touchdown. The rule states that a player of the team in possession of the ball shall not help the ball carrier by grasping or pushing him or charging into him, to assist his forward progress. There is a certain amount of latitude given when there is a mass of bodies around the ball carrier, which looks a lot like a rugby scrum, and it is impossible to determine if any direct assistance is being given to the ball carrier. By the way a tandem buck is a five yard penalty. Share: ![]() Tweet
