Saskatoon Fire and Protective Services say the elderly woman that died in a fire early Saturday morning was 70 years old.
The investigation has wrapped up and the official cause of the fire was deemed accidental.
Fire crews from 9, 5, 6, 8 and 2 hall were called to the 100 block of Keevil Crescent in the University Heights neighbourhood around 1:30 a.m. Saturday.
In total, 4 pumpers and an aerial arrived on scene but initially, nothing looked unusual.
People were soon evacuated from the building and crews gained access to the apartment to find it fully charged with thick black smoke.
The woman was found in the apartment on the 2nd floor of the three story building, she was taken into an ambulance and it was then confirmed that she did not survive the fire.
Crews brought the fire under control within 24 minutes of receiving the alarm and brought it to a complete loss within 53 minutes.
The people involved were allowed to return to their homes that same morning after an air-quality check.
Battalion Chief Dave Nahachewsky says their was a little bit of smoke damage done to the hallways outside of the apartment where the fire started but nothing too significant.
The damage estimate of the blaze sits at $500,000.
