The hockey rink is the hub of activity for rural communities in the winter. In the summer, young people like to gather at the swimming pool. The community of Allan, 60 kilometres southeast of Saskatoon, recently upgraded its pool and pool house. Nearly one million dollars worth of upgrades have been made to the pool. This includes repairing and lining the pool basin, building a new deck structure and replacing of the pool house. Allan Mayor Larry Sommerfield, along with MP Lynne Yelich, were on hand for the grand opening this (Friday) afternoon. A major contribution came from the federal government which covered about half of the 1-million dollar price tag. The provincial government chipped in 190-thousand dollars and PotashCorp came up with 100-thousand. The company has a mine a few kilometres away. Local fundraising and money from the Town of Allan paid for the rest of the swimming pool. (neil-aug 17th) Share: ![]() Tweet
