An air rifle caused a bit of a commotion today (Tues). Police were called to a department store in the 1700 block of Preston Avenue North and later to the intersection of 21st Street and 1st Avenue South after receiving reports that a man was carrying a back pack containing a firearm. When police arrived at the store they were told by a staff member the man had said he was taking the gun to get it repaired and the story was confirmed by other staff who said the firearm was an air rifle and it was brought in for a repair. Police searched the store and immediate area but didn't find the man. About 2 hours later, police were called to the intersection of 21st Street and 1st Avenue South following reports that a man was carrying a back pack, containing a firearm, and he was sitting on a bench there. Upon arrival police spotted the barrel of a firearm sticking out of a back pack. A 29 year old man was questioned in relation to the rifle and police believe he is the same man sighted earlier in the 1700 block of Preston Avenue. The toy was disassembled by the owner.
