4 people have been charged with second degree murder in connection to the 2011 death of 27 year old Christian Bird on the Ahtahkakoop First Nation.

Back on May 1st of last year, Bird was found by a passerby about 50 feet from shore, clinging to a piece of ice in Sandy Lake near the First Nation.

RCMP were already near the area, responding to a related disturbance.

The RCMP officer entered the water and pulled the man to shore.

He was pronounced dead shortly after.

Three of the 4 people charged were youths at the time of the offense and their names cannot be published.

The fourth person is 19 year old Dannie Justin Knife of Prince Albert.

The 4 are also charged with criminal negligence causing death.
